EIA Commends House Republican Innovation & Competitiveness Agenda

Washington, D.C., March 1, 2006 - Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) President and CEO Dave McCurdy released the following statement in reaction to today's unveiling of the House Republican Innovation/Competitiveness Agenda:

"Speaker Hastert, House Republican High-Tech Working Group Chairman Robert Goodlatte (R-VA), and other members of the Working Group are to be commended for their development of the "Innovation and Competitiveness Agenda." This effort, which emphasizes research and development, a commitment to science, and making the U.S. tax, regulatory and legal environments more attractive for innovation, can help the U.S. high-tech industry compete in the 21st century. We urge House Republican leaders to work with the Administration and Democrats in the House and Senate who have also produced similar laudable initiatives. By crafting bipartisan legislation, we can develop a national innovation and technology vision and strategy. We also urge President Bush, the House Republican High-Tech Working Group and leaders from both sides of the aisle to develop visa and immigration incentives that can make the U.S. more attractive to world-class innovation talent beyond our shores. These are important issues deserving frank debate so that the most useful innovation elements see the light of day in final legislation."
