EIA Announces Christopher Cleet As Manager, Environmental Affairs

Arlington, Va., April 19, 2005 -- The Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) announced today that Christopher (Chris) Cleet has joined EIA as Manager, Environmental Affairs. In this role, Mr. Cleet will assist with the overall management of EIA's Environmental Issues Council (EIC) while developing and advocating EIA positions on behalf of the Alliance's 1,300 member companies on several environmental issues at the international, federal and state levels, including energy efficiency, product design and electronics recycling. Mr. Cleet will also serve as a liaison to Alliance member companies on environmental policy developments, assist in the development and marketing of the EIC business plan, and research potential new member services for EIC members and EIA's sector partners.

"The extensive policy background Chris possesses will be an asset to EIA and our Environmental Issues Council as we work to expand our leadership role on environmental issues affecting the U.S. high-tech industry," EIA Director of Environmental Affairs Rick Goss said. "His ability to synthesize complex environmental regulations, manage projects, communicate effectively with our member companies, and craft practical solutions to environmental challenges will provide us with a valuable resource as we advocate on behalf of consumer electronics, IT, telecommunications and other high-tech companies who are members of EIA and the EIC."

Before coming to EIA, Mr. Cleet served as a senior Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) analyst for Johnson Control Major Systems. He also worked as the director of several of the American Chemistry Council's (ACC) Chemical Self-funded Technical Advocacy and Research Teams. In that role he provided technical guidance on worker safety, product recycling, and toxicity issues and worked with ACC's member companies to develop EH&S outreach plans. He has also taught high school chemistry, physical science and earth science in schools in Montgomery County, Md., and Lancaster, Pa.

Mr. Cleet has authored or co-authored several environmental technical papers and holds a bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Millersville University in Millersville, Pa., and a master's degree in Environmental Science from Johns Hopkins University. He can be reached at EIA by phone at (703) 907-7573 or by e-mail at ccleet@eia.org.
