Washington, DC, February 18, 2005 -- Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) President and CEO Dave McCurdy issued the following statement in reaction to the U.S. House of Representatives' 279-149 vote in favor of the Class Action Fairness Act:
"The Electronic Industries Alliance commends the U.S. Congress for improving business competitiveness in America by passing the Class Action Fairness Act. EIA strongly supports class action reform; earlier this year, the Alliance targeted the issue as one of its top legislative priorities in 2005. Now, by stipulating where and how class action suits can be filed, both the Senate and the House have taken action with legislation that can help reduce frivolous lawsuit-related costs for U.S. high-tech manufacturers and small businesses competing in the global marketplace.
We look forward to President Bush signing into law this bipartisan bill that helps U.S. high-tech companies control the cost of doing business domestically, brings balance to the class action system and improves the business climate in the U.S. for the high-tech industry."
