Robert Borchardt to Serve as EIA Chairman for Second Year
.... Dave McCurdy, president of the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), today announced that Robert L. Borchardt will serve a second year as the chairman of EIA’s Board of Governors.

In his capacity as chairman, Borchardt will continue to oversee the 60-person EIA Board of Governors, which draws its diverse membership from across the spectrum of the electronics industry and is responsible for the policies and positions of the Alliance. Borchardt also leads the 13-member Executive Committee, which manages EIA’s property and business affairs.

“We are so pleased to have Bob remain at the helm of our Board of Governors,” said EIA’s McCurdy. “He is such an effective spokesman for our companies and is always looking out for our industry’s best interests. Bob was instrumental this year as we successfully championed Trade Promotion Authority on Capitol Hill.”

Borchardt is the chairman, CEO and president of Recoton Corp., a global leader in home and mobile audio products and other consumer electronics and accessories. He has been an industry leader throughout his career, serving in recent years as the chairman of the Alliance’s Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and vice-chairman of EIA’s Board of Governors. In March 1996, Borchardt received the Humanitarian of the Year award from the Consumer Electronics and Home Office Division of the UJA Federation.

“I’m honored to continue working with the Board of Governors,” said Borchardt. “The electronics industry is presently facing some challenges, but it’s also an exciting time. The digital and wireless markets present opportunities we couldn’t dream of a few years ago, and the potential of broadband remains a strong incentive for innovation. I look forward to continuing the job of bringing the industry’s priorities to the government and keeping the focus on such critical issues as trade, the environment, information security and economic policy.”

Borchardt is joined for a second year by vice-chairmen Ron Turner, CEO of Ceridian; and Van Cullens, CEO of Westell.
