U.S. High-Tech Community Disappointed with Breakdown in Trade Talks

Cancun, Mexico – Members of the U.S. high-technology community attending the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference in Cancun expressed disappointment that the conference ended today without agreement, despite the outstanding leadership exercised by U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Robert Zoellick.

This Ministerial meeting had the potential to yield significant benefits for all members of the WTO, and to create new opportunities for U.S. providers of information and communications goods and services.  These high-tech products and services play an integral part in promoting economic and social development and making economies around the world more productive.  We believe that increased access to these goods and services would significantly benefit all members of the WTO.

The U.S. high-tech community applauds U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick and the entire U.S. negotiating team for their outstanding efforts.  We hope that WTO Members will be able to bridge their differences and continue the important work begun at Doha
