Internet Security Alliance Commends Government's Efforts to Raise Awareness About Internet Security

ISAlliance logoThe Internet Security Alliance (ISAlliance) commends the White House for elevating the issue of Internet security in its National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace, which will be released later today.  Security is not a job for one, but for all users of the Internet. The ISAlliance encourages private and public sector cooperation and calls on government and industry leaders alike to continue working together to combat new and increasing numbers of threats and vulnerabilities in cyberspace.

Roughly 90 percent of the information infrastructure is owned and operated by the private sector. That’s why nearly a year and half ago, the private sector recognized the need for industry to take a leadership role in protecting the Internet and formed the ISAlliance. Today, the ISAlliance stands ready to work with government to improve the state of security across the entire global network. This year, the ISAlliance published the first best practices guide for senior managers. It has initiated a market-based incentive program for corporations to increase security and cut costs. The ISAlliance also provides access to authoritative information on threats and vulnerabilities from the nation’s preeminent center for security expertise, and cutting-edge thought leadership on emerging cybersecurity issues.

“As industry and government alike strive to bring the utility of the Internet to every citizen, we must also demonstrate leadership in making the Internet secure,” said Dave McCurdy, Executive Director of the ISAlliance. “The strategy that will be unveiled today demonstrates the government’s firm commitment to keeping all users of the Internet secure.  The private sector’s interest demonstrates the degree of cooperation that is possible between government and industry and reiterates the need for organizations like the ISAlliance that are on the forefront of developing and advocating industry-driven information security practices, policies and technologies.”

About the Internet Security Alliance

The Internet Security Alliance provides an industry forum for information sharing and thought leadership on information security issues. It represents industry's interest before legislators and regulators and aims to identify and standardize best practices in Internet security and survivability. The alliance is a collaborative effort among Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute (SEI) and its CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC) and the Electronics Industries Alliance (EIA), a federation of trade associations.
