Canon USA Receives 2002 EIA Environmental Progress Award

Arlington, Va—The Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) today announced it has awarded its 2002 Environmental Progress Award to Canon USA .The EIA Environmental Progress Award is given annually to corporations or individuals for outstanding environmental leadership and performance in the electronics industry.

The award acknowledged Canon USA for their innovative “Clean Earth Campaign.” Established in 1990, this program formalized Canon USA’s commitment to environmental conservation through a wide range of activities.  The Clean Earth Campaign sets guidelines for all of what Canon would like to accomplish on behalf of the environment in areas such as resource recovery, green manufacturing, and carbon dioxide emissions reductions.

Through its Clean Earth Campaign, Canon has collected more than 50 million toner cartridges for recovery and reuse. In addition, employees play an integral role in Canon’s long-term commitment to preserving the world for future generations by promoting nationwide participation in Canon’s Clean Earth Crew. Clean Earth Crew volunteers conduct nationwide conservation activities in local parks and preserves and help promote internal recycling programs.

EIA President Dave McCurdy said, “For many years, the electronics industry has been a recognized leader in protecting the environment, and this year’s winner continues that tradition. The accomplishments of Canon USA serve as a model to other companies in the electronics industry to integrate environmental considerations in all company activities.”
