Arlington, Va. – Electronic Industries Alliance President Dave McCurdy today applauded President Bush for his efforts to spur action in the U.S. Senate on Trade Promotion Authority (TPA).
In a speech today, the President called for the Senate to act on TPA by April 22.
McCurdy said:
“We are pleased by the President’s strong statement today pressuring the Senate to act on Trade Promotion Authority by April 22. We cannot let TPA languish in the Senate –Trade Promotion Authority is the highest policy priority for the high tech community this Congress, and we need it passed yesterday.
“High technology exports account for 29% of U.S. merchandise exports, and access to new markets is imperative for our industry’s continued growth. With the condition of the telecommunications sector and recent indicators showing a slow economic recovery, we need every advantage possible to be able to get back to the business of driving the engine of the U.S. economy.
“We’re thankful President Bush has refocused the Senate on the urgent need for TPA, and we’re ready to hit the ground running when Congress returns next Monday.”
