Charles W. Freeman III Bio:

Mr. Freeman is located in the Washington, D.C. office, where he serves as Managing Director of the China Alliance. He advises clients regarding government relations in the U.S. and China, regulatory and trade matters, and investment strategies in China. Previous to joining the China Alliance, he was the Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for China Affairs. With his extensive past experience, Mr. Freeman provides companies and trade organizations with information regarding current trends and changes in U.S. and China policy that may seriously impact businesses worldwide. He has facilitated access to key government decision makers in North America and China, as well as counseling clients in trade matters, trade disputes, anti-dumping actions and other trade and enforcement matters. He has also developed strategic planning services to help companies design and implement a China strategy that is responsive to, and takes advantage of, economic policies in both North America and China.
As Assistant USTR for China Affairs, Mr. Freeman was the United States’ chief China trade negotiator, responsible for the development and implementation of the United States’ overall trade policy with respect to China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and Mongolia. He served a major role in the Bush Administration’s management of the unique challenges of U.S. trade with China, and its efforts to secure the benefits of China’s World Trade Organization accession for American businesses, workers, farmers and service providers. Mr. Freeman also played a central role in negotiating with China and solving problems across a wide range of issues, including intellectual property rights protection; financial and non-financial services; tax, industrial standards and technology policies; and agricultural market access.
